Structural Engineer (P.E.) – Consultant Assignment | Jersey City, New Jersey (On-Site/Hybrid)
JMV Associates, a New York State- and NYC-certified M/WBE firm specializing in building codes, zoning, and expediting, is seeking a licensed Structural Engineer for a one-year consulting assignment with a major bi-state transportation agency’s Design Standards Unit in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Assignment Details
• One-year assignment, with a 40-hour workweek • On-site in Jersey City, New Jersey, and/or remote work, as directed by the client • Anticipated start date: December 2026
Responsibilities
• Review structural and geotechnical design documents, including drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports, for tenant alteration projects and design audits • Verify compliance with applicable building codes and agency technical standards • Coordinate review comments from other technical disciplines and prepare comment memoranda • Meet with tenant Architects and Engineers of Record to discuss comments and resolve issues • Assign technical disciplines for code review and coordinate with facility staff to process projects
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in New York and/or New Jersey (required) • Minimum 5 years of experience with building structural and geotechnical codes and systems • Understanding of structural and geotechnical design for transportation and related facilities • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Comfortable serving as a liaison between tenants, facilities, and in-house reviewers • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn SharePoint, Trimble, e-Builder, and other platforms
Compensation: $100,000–$135,000 per year (approximately $48–$65 per hour), commensurate with experience.
